Asha Bhosle Biography and Works.

Asha Bhosle was born on September 8, 1933 in a Marathi family. She is one of the best-known and most highly-regarded Hindi playback singers in India. She is sister of another legendary singer, Lata Mangeshkar.

Her career started in 1943 and spanned over six decades. She has sung songs for a number of Bollywood movies. Bhosle has sung over 12,000 songs, including pop music, ghazals, bhajans, traditional Indian classical music, folk songs and others.

She was conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008. “The World Records Academy recognized her as the ‘Most Recorded Artist’ in 2009. In 2011, she was officially acknowledged by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most recorded artist.

She has been a versatile singer throughout her career. Be it the romantic, ‘Oh Mere Sona Re or the sensuous, ‘Aaiye Meherban’ or the peppy, ‘Kambakht Ishq’. Asha Bhosle has been adding life to every song.

Being a renowned singer and actor, her father, Dinanath Mangeshkar, trained her in classical music at a very young age.

Asha got a chance to sing in a Marathi film at the age of ten. After a lot of struggle, Asha did playback singing for Hindi movie, Chunariya in 1948.

She eloped with her sister, Lata Mangeshkar’s Personal Secretary Ganpat Rao Bhosle at the age of 16 and married him. The marriage didn’t work and she came back to her maternal house with her children. In 1980, she married music director RD Burman.

The movie, Teesri Manzil released in 1966 gave her enormous fame and she was acclaimed all over India and abroad as well.
