Lalit Suri Biography and Works.

Lalit Suri was the Founder, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Hotels Ltd, and was a Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha. A widely respected and highly regarded figure amongst the Indian and international business community, he was acknowledged for his dynamism, foresight and forward thinking.

He was a sitting Member of Parliament of the Rajya Sabha and was elected for the second term to the Upper House of the Indian Parliament in May, 2004.

Lalit Suri’s contributions to the Indian tourism industry are well documented and he took it upon himself to further the cause of the industry, as a Global Executive Committee. He was the member of the renowned World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and Honorary Chairman of the WTTC India Initiative; the Chairman of the FICCI Tourism Committee (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry). He was also the founder member of Hotel Association of India, a premier Hotel body of the country and also its President. Under his stewardship, the Bharat Hotels became one of the country’s largest privately owned and fastest growing chain of hotels.

On a business trip to London, Lalit Suri expired on October 10, 2006. He is survived by his wife, Jyotsna and their four children.

Lalit Hotel is now the flagship brand of Bharat Hotels Limited, a part of the Lalit Suri Hospitality Group.

Trivia

Suri was also the owner of the Midday newspaper in Delhi. An alumnus of Sri Ram College of Commerce, New Delhi, Suri also won a number of prestigious awards and has been responsible for pushing a number of policy recommendations on the tourism sector.
