Ronald Reagan Biography and Works.

Ronald Reagan was born on February 6, 1911 in Illinois. He was the 40th President of the United States.

Reagan worked as a radio sports announcer for WOC radio in Davenport after graduating from the Eureka College in 1932. Before entering politics, Reagan was an actor. His started when his acting career he was asked to play a radio announcer in ‘Love is on the air’ in 1937.

Reagan became a famous actor by the time he did his last film, ‘The Killers’ in 1964.

He married actress Jane Wyman in 1940. The couple got divorced in 1948 during the time when Reagan was becoming politically active. Then, in 1952, he married actress Nancy Davis. The couple had two children.

Reagan switched political parties after actively supporting Nixon’s campaign for President in 1960 and officially became a Republican in 1962. In 1966, Reagan successfully ran for the ‘Governor of California’ and served two consecutive terms. He then won the Presidential elections for the United States in 1980.

He made the first major move forward in the Cold War when he and Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev agreed to jointly eliminate some of their nuclear weapons.

After serving two consecutive terms as President, Reagan retired. He was soon officially diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and decided to tell the American people in an open letter on November 5, 1994.

Reagan’s health continued to deteriorate and on June 5, 2004, Reagan passed away at the age of 93.
