Shashi Tharoor Biography and Works.

Born on March 9, 1956, Shashi Tharoor is an Indian politician and a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Thiruvananthapuram constituency in Kerala. He previously served as the United Nations Under-Secretary General for Communications and Public Information and as the Minister of State for the Ministry of External Affairs.

He resigned as Minister of State for External Affairs, following a controversy over his association with the bid for the Kochi IPL team.

He is also a prolific author, columnist, journalist and a human rights advocate.

He is the managing trustee of the ‘Chandran Tharoor Foundation’ which he founded with his family and friends in the name of his late father, Chandran Tharoor.

Shashi Tharoor was born in London to Lily and Chandran Tharoor, both Malayalis, hailing from the state of Kerala.

Tharoor studied at Montfort School in Yercaud and Campion School in Mumbai. He attended the high school at St. Xavier’s Collegiate School in Kolkata and obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi.

He married Dubai-based entrepreneur Sunanda Pushkar in 2010.

Trivia

He also likes writing from the age of six and his first published story appeared in the “Bharat Jyoti”, the Sunday edition of the “Free Press Journal”, in Mumbai, when he was ten years old. Each of his books has been a best-seller in India. The Great Indian Novel is currently in its 28th edition in India along with his newest volume. The Elephant, the Tiger and the Cellphone have undergone seven hardback reprintings there.
