Swami Ramdev Biography and Works.

Swami Ramdev, also known as Baba Ramdev, is particularly known for his efforts in popularizing Yoga. Popularly known as Yoga Garz, Ramdevis one of the founders of the ‘Divya Yoga Mandir Trust’ that aims to popularize Yoga.

Born on January 11, 1965 in Alipur as ‘Ramkrishan Yadav, Ramdev attended school till the eighth grade and then joined in a Yogic monastery or the Gurukul. He then entered into Sanyas. Eventually, he went to Jind district to join the Kala gurukul Later, he started imparting free yoga training in villages across Haryana.

Before settling in Haridwar, he had travelled through the Himalayas where he discovered many medicinal plants which he uses in treating his patients.

In 1995, while training to be a Swami, Ramdev spent many years undertaking a thorough study of ancient Indian scriptures.

Ramdev has taught several aspects of traditional Indian scriptures, such as the Mahabhashya, the Ashtadhyayee, and the Upanishads. He has helped establish Gurukuls and institutions in India. These institutions provide a comprehensive facility that promotes the practice of Ayurveda.

He also set up the ‘Patanjali Yog Peeth Trust’ in 2006. The Trust has acquired a Scottish island for £2 million to set up a wellness centre.

Baba Ramdev launched a nationwide protest against corruption and the issue of black money on June 4, 2011. However, the police raided the Ramlila ground at midnight. The crackdown was widely criticized by Ramdev and the opposition parties.

Trivia

A well-respected teaching and research institute for Science and Technology, the KITT University awarded Ramdev with an Honorary Doctorate degree for his efforts at popularizing Yoga.
