(1) Will Wimble’s is the case of many a younger brother of a great Family who had rather see their children starve like gentlemen, Than thrive in a trade or profession that is beneath their quality. This humour fills several parts of Europe with pride and beggary.

Explanation:- In these lines Addison tells that though Will Wimble was cultured and skillful but he had no regular source of income. His whole life. had been wasted and now he was about forty years of age. Because of legal and social restrictions. he was compelled to lead a life of poverty, depending upon the mercy of the elders of his family. He passed a difficult life in the absence of income because any work that he ever wanted to do was considered beneath the dignity of his aristocratic family. This was not the case only with Will Wimble or a few other young men like him, but in the whole country and all Europe. This hollow and empty pride became the cause of the ruin of many such young men and sometimes such families. The talented and cultured young men were not allowed work and their poverty made them live on the verge of beggary. Their condition was no better than beggars in their family.

(3) Will Wimble is younger brother to a baronet, and descended of the ancient family of the Wimbles. He is now between forty and fifty, but being bred to no business. and born to no estate, he generally lives with his elder brother as superintendent of his game.

As a result the whole career of this talented man has been wasted for nothing.
(4) Odd and uncommon characters are the game that I look for, and most delight in, for which reason I was as much pleased with the novelty of the person that talked to me, as he could be for his life with the springing of a pheasant and therefore listened to him with more than ordinary attention.

The people love and honour him for all these things but in fact this is a wastage of his talent and he leads a life of indignity.
