John Travolta Biography and Works.

Born on February 2, 1954, John Travolta is an American actor who rose to fame with his lead role in the film, Grease.

Travolta had joined an area actors’ group by the age of 12, and soon began appearing in local musicals and dinner-theatre performances.

By the age of 16, he dropped out of high school to take up acting full time. He then earned himself a role in a touring version of Grease, as well as a part in Over Here! on Broadway.

One of Travolta’s first TV acting jobs was with soap opera, The Edge of Night. In 1976, Travolta did his first notable movie role in Carrie.

Travolta’s breakthrough role came around in the late 1970s, when he starred as Vinni Barbarino in the sitcom, Welcome Back, Kotter.

In 1977, Travolta appeared as Tony Manero in Saturday Night Fever and got the role of Danny Zuko in the film version of Grease in 1978. These two films are perhaps two of his best known. He was also nominated for the Best Actor for Oscar.

Some of his other known films were Urban Cowboy, Staying Alive, Two of a kind, Pulp Fiction.

John Travolta married actress Kelly Preston in 1991. The couple have a son, Jett and a daughter, Ella Bleu.

His more recent works were Hairspray, Adam Shankman’s screen adaptation of the stage musical, which put Travolta in drag to play the heavy set, The Taking of Pelham 13 and From Paris with Love, as well as a sequel to Wild Hogs, 2009’s Old Dogs.

Trivia

He won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor-Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his performance in Get Shorty.
