Ariel Sharon Biography and Works.

Also known by the name of Ariel Scheinermann, Sharon was born in Kfar Malal to a family of Lithuanian Jews.

He was an Israeli statesman and a retired general. He served as Israel’s 11th Prime Minister. Ariel had been in a permanent vegetative state since he suffered a stroke on January 4, 2006.

Sharon was a commander in the Israeli Army since its inception in 1948. He participated in the 1948 War of Independence as an Army officer, the Qibya massacre of 1953, the 1956 Suez War, the Six-Day War of 1967, and the Yom Kippur War of 1973.

After retiring from the army, Sharon joined the right-wing Likud party. He then became the leader of the Likud in 2000 and served as Israel’s Prime Minister from 2001 to 2006. He left Likud to form new Kadima Party in November 2005.

On January 4, 2006, Sharon suffered a severe stroke that left him in a persistent vegetative state.

In March 2006 elections, Kadima was led by Ehud Olmert following Sharon’s stroke. It went on to win plurality of Knesset seats, becoming the senior coalition partner in Israel’s 31st government.

Sharon breathed his last on January 11, 2014.

Trivia

Sharon lost his son, Goor (from his first wife, Margalit) in a shooting accident in 1968.
