Adi Godrej Biography and Works.

Born on April 3, 1942, Adi Godrej is an Indian industrialist and philanthropist. As of 2016, he is one of the richest Indians with net worth of US$24.00 billion. He is also the second richest person of Parsi descent in the world after Pallonji Mistry. He is the present Chairman of the Godrej Group, which includes many Indian companies. He is also the Chairman of two international companies; Keyline Brands, U.K and Rapidol, South Africa; as well as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Dadabhai Naoroji Memorial Prize Fund.

Godrej received his undergraduate degree from MIT and his MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management, and a member of Tau Beta Pi. After his return to India, he joined the family business. He modernized and systematised management structures and implemented process improvements. Adi Godrej took the Godrej Group to great heights. After the liberalization process, Adi Godrej restructured the company’s policies to meet the challenges of globalization.

He is married to the famous socialite, Parmeshwar Godrej and the couple has two daughters and a son.

His son, Pirojsha Godrej finished his management studies from and has now joined the Godrej Properties. The Godrej Group was started abroad more than a century ago and since then it manufactured locks and vegetable based soaps displacing many foreign brands. Adi Godrej is a recipient of several awards including the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi Award, 2002.

Trivia

Under Adi Godrej’s leadership, the group is also involved in philanthropic activities. Godrej is a major supporter of the World Wildlife Fund in India.
