Ansel Adams Biography and Works.

Born on February 20, 1902 to Charles Hitchcock Adams and Olive Bray in San Francisco, Ansel Adams was one of the most well-known photographers of the 20th century.

Ansel Adams is known for the pictures of landscapes that he captured.

An unfortunate incident during his childhood left Adams with a broken nose. This made him very conscious about his appearance and hence, felt as a misfit in school. Therefore, he had to leave school midway. His father arranged for his education at home.

He married Virginia Best in 1928 and was blessed with two children. He died on April 22, 1984.

As a child, he loved to explore the outside world and was also interested in music. He learnt to play the piano when he was twelve. He wanted to become a musician until he took a trip to the ‘Yosemite National Park’ in 1916 and took his first set of photographs.

He joined the ‘Sierra Club’, which dealt with the protection of wildlife of Sierra Nevada in 1919 and later became the President of the club.

He wrote and clicked photographs for many publications by the Sierra Club. He, later, started his own gallery where he taught as well as worked. He learnt several new photographic techniques from renowned photographer Paul Strand during one of his working stints in New Mexico.

As a commercial photographer, he captured the wilderness, unexplored by mankind and American landscapes throughout his career.

There may not be a photographer more famous than Ansel Adams in history, yet he was not financially sound.
