Azim Premji Biography and Works.

The third richest Indian and the 36th richest in the world, Azim Hashim Premji is a business tycoon and a philanthropist. Born on July 24, 1945, Azim Premji is the Chairman of one of the leading software companies, Wipro Ltd.

Azim Premji was born to M.H. Premji. After his father’s death, Azim Premji took over the reins of family business in 1966 at the age of 21.

He is an icon among Indian businessmen and his success story is a truly source of inspiration to a number of budding entrepreneurs.

Azim Premji’s leadership metamorphosed Wipro from a Rs 70 million company in hydrogenated cooking fats to a pioneer in providing integrated business, technology and process solutions on a global delivery platform today.

He is married to Yasmeen. The couple has two children – Rishad and Tariq. Rishad is currently the Chief Strategy Officer of IT Business, Wipro.

Besides being a successful businessman, Azim Premji believes in charity as well. He is known for his modesty even being a wealthy person. In 2001, Premji contributed a significant amount of funding to initiate the set up of the Azim Premji Foundation, a non-profit organization that focuses on improving education for children in India.

Then, he established the Azim Premji University under the Azim Premji University Act, 2010 of the Government of Karnataka to award degrees in teacher training.

In 2005, the government of India honoured Azim Premji with Padma Bhushan.
