Elizabeth Taylor Biography and Works.
Born on February 27, 1932, Dame Elizabeth Rosemond ‘Liz Taylor was a British-American actress. As a child star with the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), she became a great screen actress of Hollywood’s Golden Age.
Elizabeth lived in London until the age of seven, after which the family left for the United States when clouds of war began brewing in Europe in 1939.
Taylor was known for her acting ability, glamorous lifestyle, beauty and distinctive violet eyes. Her first venture on the screen was in There’s One Born Every Minute in 1942. It was released when she was ten years old. Later, Elizabeth was picked up by the MGM.
She did many films with the studio, the first one being Lassie Come Home in 1943. She had minuscule parts in her next two films – The White Cliffs of Dover and Jane Eyre.
She gained widespread popularity with MGM’s National Velvet in 1944. In 1947, she starred in Life with Father with popular actors like William Powell, Irene Dunne and Zasu Pitts.
Her busiest year was 1954, with roles in Rhapsody, Beau Brummell, The Last Time I Saw Paris and Elephant Walk. Some of her other successful films include Raintree County, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Suddenly and Last Summer. She also won an Oscar for Butterfield 8.
Taylor died of congestive heart failure in March 2011 at the age of 79, having suffered many years of ill health.
