Javed Akhtar Biography and Works.

Javed Akhtar was born on January 17, 1945 in Gwalior. He is a poet, lyricist and scriptwriter from India. Some of his most successful work was done in the late 1970s and 1980s with Salim Khan. The script-writing duo Salim-Javed is credited with many good and long-lasting songs. Both of them delivered some beautiful hits like Zanjeer, Deewar, Haathi Mere Saathi, Don and many more.

Javed Akhtar continues to be a prominent figure in Bollywood and is one of the most popular lyricists in the industry. His original name was Jadoo, taken from a line in a poem written by his father – Lamha, lamha kisi jadoo ka fasana hoga’. He was given an official name of Javed.

Javed Akhtar has also won about seven ‘Filmfare’ awards. He has been conferred with Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.

A multi-talented personality, Javed Akhtar continues to get rave reviews and awards for his works. His first collection of Urdu poems was released in the year, 1995. It was also released as an album and sold many CDs.

The famous artist, M.F. Hussain is said to have painted around 16 canvases inspired from Javed Akhtar’s poems.

He not only excels as a poet but also as a scriptwriter and lyricist.

Trivia

After the success of ‘Don’, it was remade in Tamil as Billa starring Rajinikanth, but the story writers were the same, Salim-Javed, in it and they made a few changes in the script, here and there.
