Naresh Trehan Biography and Works.

Dr. Naresh Trehan is an Indian surgeon and medical administrator. Born on August 12, 1946, Trehan is the CEO and Managing Director of ‘Medanta’ -the Medicity and is one of the leading cardiologists of the country.

Trehan’s parents were well known doctors in Pakistan.

He holds the credit for being a personal surgeon to the President of India and has received numerous awards for his contributions in the field of healthcare.

He is considered as one of India’s most successful cardiac surgeons. He was keen on learning new things since childhood. He did his MBBS from KG Medical College, Lucknow in 1968.

He started practising heart surgery under the guidance of Dr. Frank Spencer at the New York University. He is the founder of the Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre and was also its Chief Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeon.

In 1969, he got married to Madhu Trehan, sister of founder of leading news magazine ‘India Today’, Arun Poorie. The couple has two daughters.

Naresh Trehan’s major contribution has been in the realms of cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgery. He is the founder of Medanta, which is a multi-super specialty institute that not only offers good medical facilities but also boasts of cutting-edge surgical technologies and superlative healthcare service.

He was conferred with many awards including the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan for his contributions in the field of surgery and medicine.

Trehan also led a team and examined social activist, Anna Hazare during his famous 13-day long fast at the Ramlila Maidan against corruption.

Trivia

Trehan was unceremoniously dropped from the Escorts Hospital by the Fortis Management after it was discovered he was involved in irregular practices and trying to run the hospital as a one-man show.
