Shammi Kapoor Biography and Works.

Born on October 21, 1931, Shammi Kapoor was a famous Indian actor and director. Shamsher Raj or ‘Shammi’ Kapoor, son of actor Prithviraj Kapoor and Ramsarni ‘Rama’ Mehra Kapoor, moved into filmmaking with his father’s company, Prithvi Theatres.

He started his career in 1953, but his movies did not succeed at the box office. He worked in films like Coffee House and Rangin Raaten from 1955 to 1957 but could not make his name.

His film Tumsa Nahin Dekha in 1957 was a turning point in his career. The new look with short hair and no moustache created a different persona, all together. The film was followed with many more hits like Junglee, Teesri Manzil, Brahmachari and many more.

He had married actress Geeta Bali in 1955. She died of smallpox in 1965. Shammi Kapoor married again to Queen of Bhavanagar Neila Devi in 1969.

Andaz was his last film as a leading actor in 1971. However, he continued to do supporting roles in several films in later years. He also directed two films, Manoranjan and Bundal Baaz Later, Shammi founded the Internet Users Community of India, where he used to speak directly to his fans and made online videos.

Many of his family members including his elder brother, Raj Kapoor and younger brother, Shashi Kapoor, their spouses, grandchildren, are or have been into the film industry.

His last film was Rockstar with his great-nephew, Ranbir Kapoor. Shammi Kapoor died on August 14, 2011 due to chronic renal failure.

Trivia

Shammi Kapoor was one of the first persons in India to contribute in the field of Internet. Shammi Kapoor has two children, Aditya Raj and Kanchan, both from his previous wife.
