Tom Hanks Biography and Works.

Thomas Jeffrey or ‘Tom Hanks was born on July 9, 1956. He is an American actor, writer, producer and director.

Tom Hanks did not have the happiest of childhoods, as his parents got divorced when he was only 5 years old.

After he settled down in Oakland, Tom began taking part in high school plays. He left California State University to pursue his acting career further.

He then got married in 1978 to actress/producer Samantha Lewes. The couple got divorced in 1987. Tom Hank’s first break as an actor came in a low budget movie called ‘He Knows You’re Alone in 1980. He then acted in TV Sitcom, Bosom Buddies and in a number of comedy films like Taxi, Family Ties, Splash.

It was with the film Big in 1988 that he gained popularity. His other successful films include Penny Marshall’s A League of Their Own in 1992, Sleepless in Seattle in 1993, Philadelphia, Forrest Gump, Toy Story, Apollo 13.

His movie, Cast Away got him an Oscar nomination.

Tom Hanks is a family man married to actress Rita Wilson, who he met on the sets of the movie, Volunteers’ in 1985.

Surely with the bundle of talent that this actor has and his selective approach to movies, there is no match to this actor.

He was ranked 17th out of The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time by the Empire magazine in October 1997.
