Walt Disney Biography and Works.

Walt Disney was born on December 5, 1901 in Chicago Illinois. His father, Elias Disney and mother, Flora Call Disney had five children, four boys and a girl. His father, a strict and religious man, who often physically abused his children, was working as a building contractor when Walter was born.

Walt had very early interests in art. He used to sell his drawings to neighbours and make extra money. He pursued his arts, by studying art and photography at McKinley High School in Chicago. He had grown his love for nature and wildlife and family and community, which were a large part of agrarian living. Walt was encouraged by his mother and elder brother, Roy to pursue his talents.

On returning from France, he opened his own company which fell bankrupt and then, with twenty dollars in his hand, he headed towards Hollywood. Walt became a recognized Hollywood figure after making success of his ‘Alice Comedies’. In 1925, he married Lillian Bounds, in Lewiston. Later on they were blessed with two daughters, Diane and Sharon.

And then his productions fetched him many awards till 1937. During the next five years, Walt Disney Studios completed other full-length animated classics, such as Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo and Bambi.

Walt Disney’s dream of a clean and organized amusement park, came true, as Disneyland Park opened in 1955. He expired on December 15, 1966.

Trivia

During the fall of 1918, Disney attempted to enlist for military service but got rejected because of being underage. Instead, he joined the Red Cross and spent a year driving an ambulance and chauffeuring Red Cross officials in France. His ambulance was covered with Disney cartoons.
