The objections of the writer

The writer has given two objections about the rule of the white man for the black people in the U.S.A. His objections were related to the two reasons. One reason was related to the bad effects of the long time slavery of the black people by the rich white. The other reason was different from slavery and it was liberty. The black people could not develop their sense of beauty to admire the natural beauty and the different features of the land of the people. They were cut-off from the normal human life and they were like an island in middle of a large number of white men. The black people were at the mercy of their white masters who used to take much work from the poor workers and they gave them only bare living. They have no exchange of ideas between the sexes because they had no family life in the normal manner. The black people were not given even their basic rights of the freedom of expression because they were under the slavery of the white masters.

The black people had the double disadvantage

The black people had the double disadvantage of suffering under the burden of slavery under the white masters for a long time. After their nominal freedom they had to face a new kind of bondage share cropping. They were compelled to work hard on the plantations of the rich white people. Then they had no freedom to keep their families together with permission of the landlords who treated them like their slaves only. They had the freedom to go to the far-off places to earn their necessary living and they were underpaid even for their living conditions which were different from those of the time of slavery. A contract was signed between the black people and the landlords in order to share the profit after paying off all the debts to the landlord. The black people could not run away to any city after breaking such contract.

No escape from the contract

Once the contract was signed, there was no escape from it. Its reason was that the black workers were legally bound to the contract for plantation, taking care of the plant and harvest the ripe harvest. If they tried to run away to any city without paying the rising debt. the police was sent to bring them back. They were arrested and brought back by the police and they were sent to work or, the same plantation. The land was fixed only for growing cotton. The fertility of the land diminished by and by, so the production of cotton also became lower and lower every year. As the debt increased, the black workers were also not paid their full wages, so they lived a hard life. They became helpless for demanding some money from the landlords for their living.

The writer Richard Wright has expressed his ideas in these important words, “The world demanded cotton, and the Lords of the Land ordered more acres to be planted-planted right up to our doorsteps; and the ritual of Queen Cotton became brutal and bloody.”
