Q. 8. How did Napoleon change the name of Animal Farm into Manor Farm? Discuss it.

Ans. Napoleon made a short and sharp speech saying that in the beginning he and his animal company was doubted for their integrity for spreading rebellion but it was not true. He and his animals wanted peaceful life and normal business relations with all neighbours. He added that the animal farm was cooperative, so confidence should be developed in the animals with common comradeship. The flag of the Animal Farm was changed. Animal Farm was abolished and it would be known as Manor Farm from that time as its original name. He asked all the pigs and Pilkington to drink for the prosperity of the Manor Farm.

Q. 9. Napoleon who was a corrupt leader became a dictator of the animal farm. Discuss it briefly.

Ans. After reading the story of the novel, ‘Animal Farm’, we find that Napoleon was a corrupt leader from the beginning. He was selfish, greedy and a wicked man. He could not tolerate Snowball who was a brave warrior and an impressive orator. By his virtues he had become very popular among all the animals of that farm. Napoleon became jealous of his growing popularity, so he wanted to get rid of him. One day, his trained and ferocious dogs made an attack on him and he escaped out of the fear of his life. After his exit, Napoleon became the dictator of that farm with the support of the pigs, Squealer and his faithful dogs. He also made friendship with the owners of the neighbouring farms which were joined to his own farm.

Q. 10. Discuss, in your own words, that Snowball was a great warrior, an expert orator and a popular leader in the animal farm. Discuss it.

Ans. As we study the present novel, Animal Farm’ we find that Snowball was a brave soldier and a great warrior. The animals of that farm had defeated Mr. Jones and his men under the able military leadership of Snowball. They got rid of Mr. Jones and his cruel rule after their victory. The Manor Farm was changed into democratic Animal Farm. He was also an impressive orator who had impressed all the animals of that farm. Napoleon could not bear his rising popularity, so he had got his dogs trained to make an attack on Snowball. He escaped out of fear of his life. All the animals of that farm became very unhappy after his departure but they were too helpless to speak any word.

Q. 11. Boxer who was a laborious man had died a pathetic death in the end. Discuss it.

Ans. After reading, ‘Animal Farm’ closely we find that Boxer was a laborious man from the beginning. He always remained faithful to Napoleon, so he always worked hard. With this reason he was awarded the title of Hero II after their victory. He had also worked hard in the construction of the windmill. One day, when he was lifting a heavy stone he fell on the ground and was seriously wounded. It was said that Squealer would send him to Wellington Hospital but he was sent to the house of a butcher. Later it was reported that he had died a pathetic and neglected death. All the pigs mourned his death by drinking wine. It shows the author’s use of bitter satire.

Q. 12. How did the pigs enjoy a privileged position at Animal Farm? Discuss it in your own words.

Ans. Napoleon was much supported by all the pigs right, or wrong because they were Napoleon’s favourites. With this reason they were given milk to drink, apples to eat and bed to sleep on. They were regarded superior to other animals of the farm because Napoleon favoured them out-and-out. Napoleon’s special favourite. Squealer always supported them saying that they were superior to all other animals of the farm by their mental brightness and understanding. Later on they were permitted by Napoleon to drink wine freely and publicly but it was against the seven commandments. They dominated other animals of the farm because they had enjoyed the support of Napoleon who had become the most powerful and cruel dictator of that Animal Farm.

Q. 13. What do you know about Squealer? Discuss.

Ans. After reading attentively the story of the novel, ‘Animal Farm’ we find Squealer as the chief flatterer of Napoleon who was an expert conversationalist. He was faithful to him and acted in league with the pigs who were also faithful to Napoleon. He was of short size, bright eyes and fat body. He was an immediate henchman of Napoleon who always acted faithfully. He always tried to convince the animals of the farm that Napoleon was a worthy leader. When Snowball was turned out of the farm he told the animals, “Snowball who has run away now was no better than a criminal.” Napoleon was sure that Squealer was his best pig.

It is necessary to point out that Squealer was a very clever politician. Napoleon succeeded as the dictator of the animal farm and he gave him his co-operation out-and-out. When some animals tried to oppose Napoleon, he used to make them silent by saying that if they did not obey Napoleon, Jones would return to that farm once again. He also supported all the pigs when they broke any rule.

Q. 14. Mr. Jones was a lazy man, so he was defeated by Snowball and his animals. Discuss it.

Ans. Mr. Jones was the leader of Manor Farm in the beginning. He was a lazy man but he was fond of drinking wine. As we open the first chapter of this novel ‘Animal Farm’ we find him in a drunken state. When he heard the noise in the farm, he did not come to know about its reason. He fired a shot in the darkness. He forgot to feed animals one day. The animals made a revolt against him. They became free and changed the name of the farm to ‘Animal Farm’. Mr. Jones was a foolish man, so he was turned out of the farm. He made the second attack but he was again defeated.
