Ans.
Explanations
(1) For a people and nation………………economic victory.
Reference: These lines have been taken from the article, Patriotism Beyond Politics and Religion written by Dr. A.P.J. Kalam, the late President of India.
Context: Dr. Kalam calls to the people of India to greatness. He wants them to rise beyond politics and religion for the sake of the nation. He says that there are three factors invariably found in a strong nation: a collective pride in its achievements, unity and ability for combined action.
Explanation: Dr. Kalam says that in order to attain the greatest heights, it is essential for a people and a nation to have a common memory of great heroes and their achievements, and of their brave and wonderful deeds and victories in the past. Dr. Kalam gives the example of the English who attained great heights because, they had great heroes like Lord Nelson and the Duke of Wellington. They have great admiration for these heroes. If someone wants an example of national pride, we may quote Japan as national pride is found in them in the utmost degree. They are proud of being one nation.. They are proud of having one culture. It is because of these qualities, that they were able to convert the crushing defeat into a successful economic victory.
(2) The greatest danger…………….can bring unity.
Reference: This passage appears in the article Patriotism Beyond Politics and Religion, written by Dr. A.PJ. Kalm, the late President of India.
Context: Indian culture is very ancient. It precedes both Islam and Christianity. The Christians and the Muslims living in India are as much Indians as any other Indian practising Hinduism or any other religion. The author particularly mentions the name of A. K. Antony and A. R. Rehman.
Explanation: The author says that the greatest danger to our sense of purpose and to the unity of the nation is from those fundamentalists who intend to divide the people of India on the basis of caste and religion. The constitution of India guarantees equal rights to all the people of India and it safeguards their rights without any discrimination. What worries the nation most is that people prefer religious form to religious sentiments. Religion is being used to gain political benefit. It is very dangerous. The author lays emphasis that efforts should be made to develop a culture that makes us dutiful and faithful citizens of India. The need of the hour is that there should not be discrimination of any sort in the country. All should be treated equally and equal opportunities should be provided to all. Today we need a vision that can establish unity in the country.
(3) The most important………………..a harmonious India.
Reference: These are the concluding lines of the essay, Patriotism Beyond Politics and Religion, written by the late President of India Dr. A. PJ. Kalam. This article is taken from Dr. Kalam’s famous book The Ignited Minds.
Context: Dr. A.PJ. Kalam gives an important piece of advice to political leaders of the country. They should realize that the nation is bigger than individual interests and political parties. Equal efforts should be made for the development of cities and villages.
Explanation: The author says that the leadership of the country has an important and urgent work to do. The leadership of the country should bring together all the constructive forces of the country and these forces be deployed to fulfill a mission. India is a country of one billion people. Here live various communities and they practice a number of religions. There is found vast geographical diversity. It has a long series of mountains, plains, vast expanses of meadows and and desert. Similarly it also presents a series of ideologies. This diversity is our greatest strength. We need joint efforts to get positive results. Divided efforts, half backed and different opinions and faulty planning do not produce good results. All the people of India ‘should do their best to create in India where harmony, love and fraternity prevail.
